Empowerment encourages people and enables them to act in a self-determined way, strengthen their own abilities and gain more control over challenging situations. Prevention sensitises, protects and counteracts discriminatory structures at an early stage.

In our society, bias often leads to systematic bias in perception, thinking and decision-making processes – usually unconsciously, but with a profound effect. Marginalised people and groups in particular easily experience disadvantage, discrimination or violence – be it in a social, political or economic context.

In this course, we look at how design can make social disadvantages visible, raise awareness and connect people. The aim is to strengthen self-confidence, create spaces for dialogue and open up new perspectives. We use creative strategies to find ways to actively counteract social exclusion.

You can choose the specific topic and focus of your project yourself. An excursion and dialogue with experts provide input on the way to your own project. You have the freedom to choose or combine different media according to your interests – from photographic, drawing and graphic work to participatory installations and interventions in public spaces.
