M-PopUp // Space for Mozart
»Studio for Beauty«
| Important: this course can be chosen as both a TP and a DP |
“Studio for Beauty” – a celebration for designers: reasoning about beauty, parameters, aesthetics, art, the golden ratio, balance, compositions, tastes too?, and much more… “in a studio/salon and exhibition studio” that can make anything possible.
That’s what we want to achieve.
It’s going to be exciting.
It’s going to happen.
It’s public.
It will be interactive — participatory — typographical — graphic — spatial and accessible.
It’s for the Mozart Festival in Würzburg.
The Mozartfest Würzburg is the largest international Mozart event with numerous concerts, music labs, experiments, court garden music, premieres, Artistes Étoiles, etc. … Duration: May 29 to June 28, 2026
A pop-up store is planned for the entire duration, in the middle of the city center; in a vacant space, for all visitors and target groups, a public space for experimentation and art, exhibitions, concerts, and encounters. — Our task: to conceive, design, and implement this space — your chance for a super project in your portfolio!
We may do this as a small internal design competition, and teams are of course also possible, so that we can quickly arrive at the best result, which we will then implement together.
Main theme of the Mozart Year 2026:
Evoked beauty: Mozart the idol
Sub-theme of the PopUp Weeks in the PopUp Room:
Beauty – evoked, distorted, reimagined. In the “Studio for Beauty,” the Mozart Festival embarks on a journey through time exploring ideals of beauty: from the golden ratio to baroque splendor to plastic perfection. Between art and kitsch, Mozart and mainstream, seemingly contradictory worlds collide – challenging our understanding of aesthetics. Is beauty (merely) a question of perspective? Is there such a thing as normative beauty? What was ideal at what time? Can AI straighten out “crazy” beauty? What does beauty have to do with consumption? Can it also be overstimulated?
M PopUp // Studio for Beauty is curated by Leonie Klein – drummer, concert designer, journalist, and Artiste d’avenir of the Mozartfest 2026, a truly fantastic, young, committed, and inspiring person. You can look forward to meeting her!
There will be four weeks, each with a different focus and special, changing, and recurring events. More on this in the introduction.
So let’s stage this Studio für Schönheit, which will also be open and available for concerts and performances, discussions, workshops, socializing, eating, dreaming, etc.
You will have the opportunity to combine all the trades and make an unforgettable appearance: as an active member of the Mozartfest professional team, including a certificate at the end.
The project will be short and sweet, running from March to the end of May (completion), June (duration), followed by dismantling, after which you will have plenty of time for your other courses. — I look forward to seeing everyone and to your commitment and our space in the city for EVERYONE.
Thanks to your and my commitment to the Mozart Festival over the past few years, a cooperation with the THWS is currently developing, which means that your work is now also being recognized and appropriately promoted and disseminated by the highest authorities at the university, the president and the chancellor. That is a great honor.
