When we enter a new cultural environment, we often perceive things differently from those who grew up in it. What is second nature to some may strike others as surprising, confusing, fascinating, or unusual. What connects us this semester is the shared environment. By looking at it from both the inside and the outside, we want to rediscover the everyday and the unfamiliar alike, while questioning our own perceptions.

We invite you to settle in, observe, get to know one another, discover and compare. What stands out to you in Würzburg and at the university that is unfamiliar to you because it is different from your own culture? Or what do you notice only now, because you have never looked at it this closely before? What unique features do you encounter in everyday life — in social situations, language, art, design, traditions, or the way people live together? What surprises, puzzles, or fascinates you?

To explore these questions, you might, for example, conduct interviews at the faculty and explore your new surroundings, considering their characteristics, composition, facilities, materials, atmosphere, and other sensory dimensions such as smells and sounds. Based on these observations and conversations, you will develop your own creative project. The focus is on curiosity, exchange, a change of perspective, while exploring what catches your eye when you relate the new environment to your own experiences and cultural background.

The medium of execution is of your choosing and is based on your specific concept.

The following activities are planned as part of the course:

· Visit to the Würzburg Residence
· Visit to the “Schulwandbilder” exhibition
· Exploring the different THWS locations
