Medical Devices
Proactive Design in a Medical Context
Design and medicine are increasingly coming together. Digital technologies not only enable better methods of examination and treatment, but also open up entirely new possibilities for medical devices and therapeutic approaches. This creates an exciting and increasingly relevant field of work for designers.
This semester, we will explore the topic through observation and experimentation. We will measure physiological data, investigate medical imaging techniques, and examine limitations and disabilities. Based on these observations, we will develop applications that support, compensate, make things visible, or open up entirely new possibilities.
Technology is only a means to an end. The focus is much more on asking good questions, making precise observations, and developing original ideas through analysis and subsequent design exploration.
Ideally, the projects will be developed as prototypes. No extensive prior knowledge of digital technologies is required: New approaches can also be communicated through simulations, models, or other suitable forms of representation.
If needed, students may take the TP “Creative Coding & AI” with Manuel Michel to support the realization of their projects.
Students from the MA program Digital Business Systems are also expected to participate in this project course.
