Photography is a secret
Photographic Basics II with a focus on architecture, fashion, essay
“A photograph is a secret about a secret, the more it tells you the less you know.” (Diane Arbus)
A photograph is a section of the world, a cut through time, an abstraction of reality. But photography does not only document, it creates a world through its image, has its own truth.
How and what can we read in photographs? How can I create worlds with images myself? What different photographic practices and perspectives are there? What design and technical tools do I need? Where do I find inspiration, how do I develop ideas, how do I implement them?
We will divide the semester into three thematic blocks and develop small series for each: architecture, fashion and essay. Through exercises, workshops, reading sessions, intensive observation, and discussions, we will develop an understanding of the essence of photography, photographic positions, and our own possibilities for thinking and working with images.
