TP Creative Coding & AI
Understanding, generating, and improving Code
The use of artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way programs are created: traditional line-by-line coding is increasingly giving way to a dialogue with AI systems that generate, explain, and further develop code. For people working in the creative and design fields, this opens up new possibilities for quickly and easily bringing their own interactive ideas to life – provided they understand the basics of programming and know how to use AI as a targeted tool.
In this practical course (TP), students will first learn the absolute basics of programming (variables, loops, conditions, and functions) through simple exercises in Processing/p5.js. The focus then shifts to how AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, and GitHub Copilot) can be used to develop, debug, and expand their own interactive programs. The course goes beyond mere “prompting” and also addresses a critical understanding of what AI-generated code can do, where its limitations lie, and how to use it effectively for their own creative projects.
No prior knowledge is required.
The course is primarily intended for participants in the Interactive Media course. However, interested students from other fields are also very welcome.
