Workshop
Ceramic 3D-Printing
Sculptural traces
As part of the SPUR course (Prof. Judith Glaser), a workshop on ceramic 3D printing took place in the Neoanalogue Object Lab at the beginning of November 2023. The aim was to explore the interplay between the materials unique characteristics and digital control by transforming graphic traces into sculptural ones. The workshop was led by designer Babette Wiezorek (Additive Addicted).
On the first day, the students used the Rhino plug-in Grasshopper to create a file that described the structure of the 3D models to be created. Different volumes were created by manipulating different geometric parameter. Next a black and white image was projected onto the surface area of these bodies to generated the topographies of the test series. The objects were then printed on the following two days. The course also provided an insight into ceramic manufacturing processes as such and the advantages of 3D printing over conventional ceramic manufacturing.
The students independently experimented with the limits of the images, the printing process and the ceramic material, resulting in exciting aesthetic qualities.
