Tell me a Story

Basic project narrative illustration

Stories are a fundamental part of our culture. We think in narrative connections and create episodes with a beginning and an end. We think in stories.

In this course, we tell stories with pictures. We will test the rules of visual authorship. We examine how a visual narrative can represent different narrative perspectives, time sequences or dramaturgy. We experiment with the balance between image and word. The starting point for our work can be a story we have invented ourselves or one that already exists. Anything can be created in this course, from classic picture books or comics to text-accompanying illustrations of stories or reports. Our picture stories can be aimed at both children and adults.

In this course, we go through the entire process of illustrative project work, from finding the theme, and the first sketches of the characters and scenarios to the finished layout. The focus of our work is always on illustrative visualisation and testing our working processes.
