Picture stories
Telling stories with pictures and text
Those who are entangled in stories live more intensely – I tell stories, therefore I am.
Fritz Breithaupt
In this course, we tell stories with pictures. The starting point for our work can be a story we have invented ourselves or one that already exists. We examine how different narrative perspectives, time sequences or dramaturgies can be represented in a visual narrative. We experiment with the balance between image and word. From classic picture books and comics to illustrations accompanying texts in stories or reports, anything can be created in this course. Our picture stories can be aimed at both children and adults. They can be set in the here and now or look far into the future.
In this course, we go through the entire process of illustrative project work, from finding a theme and making initial sketches of the characters and scenarios to the finished layout. The focus of our work is always on illustrative visual representation and testing our individual work processes.
