In this course, we’ll illustrate a mountain of articles on a wide variety of topics and get a glimpse into the day-to-day work of illustrators in the editorial field. The focus will be on developing ideas and sketches and quickly producing final artwork. We’ll also try to answer questions about the field:
How do illustrators land assignments? What does a good illustration portfolio look like? What do art directors actually do all day? How many sketches do I need to make for an assignment? And what about pay??

Above all, however, we take a hands-on approach to understanding what makes for successful illustrations, experimenting with ideas, techniques, styles, and media, and discussing the results in detail.
